Ongoing · last updated 8 September 2026

Ongoing collects nothing. No account, no bank connection, no analytics, no advertising identifier, no crash reporting. The only network request is an optional exchange rate refresh, described below.

What stays on your device

Your expenses, recurring charges, budgets, categories and reminders are stored in a file on your iPhone, shared only with the Ongoing widgets on that same iPhone. Deleting the app deletes them. CSV export writes a file that you choose where to send.

Exchange rates

When an expense is in another currency than your totals, the app fetches reference rates from the European Central Bank through frankfurter.app, at most once a day. The request carries only the code of your currency, such as EUR. You can enter rates by hand instead; the app then never connects.

Camera and receipts

Scanning a receipt or a letter uses the camera, and the text and QR code recognition built into iOS, entirely on the device. Nothing is ever uploaded. The image of a letter is never stored. The image of a receipt is stored only when you log it in a business account, compressed, on your iPhone, as the attachment of your expense report; you can delete them all from the expense report screen. The permission is only asked when you first scan.

Microphone and voice

Dictation, on iOS 26 and later, is transcribed by the speech model built into your iPhone, on the device. No sound is recorded to a file and nothing is sent anywhere; where your language has no on-device model, there is no microphone button at all. The permissions are only asked when you first dictate.

Notifications

Reminders are scheduled locally by iOS, on your device. No notification server is involved. The permission is only asked when you turn a reminder on.

Subscriptions

Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We receive no payment details, no name and no email address. The app asks Apple whether Ongoing+ is active and gets back yes or no.

Children

The app holds no personal data beyond what you type, and does not target children.

Changes

If this ever changes, this page changes first and the app's App Store privacy labels change with it.
